FAQs

I primarily create detailed pet portraits that honour the unique spirit of each animal. I also happily accept wildlife portraits and, depending on the subject and photo reference, I occasionally take on human, architectural (such as family homes or meaningful properties), and select landscape pieces. These are considered based on availability and fit with my current schedule. If you have something special in mind, feel free to reach out—I’d love to hear about it.

Commissioning a portrait is simple and personal. Just reach out through my contact form to get started. I’ll ask you to share your favourite reference photo(s) of your pet—ideally clear, natural-light images that show their personality and unique features.
Once we’ve confirmed the size, medium (graphite, acrylic, or oil), number of subjects, composition, and any specific requests, I’ll provide you with a quote. A deposit is required to secure your place in my schedule. If needed, I’m happy to create a digital mock-up so you can visualize the final layout before I begin.
For a full step-by-step overview, prices and sizes you can also visit my Commission Your Portrait page.

To create an authentic portrait that truly reflects your pet’s spirit, I kindly ask that you provide the highest-quality photos you have available—clear, natural, and free from heavy filters or digital alterations. Because my work is highly detailed, the quality of the reference photo directly impacts the level of detail I can achieve in your portrait.
Please choose a photo that captures your pet’s personality or a special memory. A few additional close-ups—especially of their eyes—are always helpful. Natural lighting is best, as harsh or dim lighting can distort fur colour and detail. (The exception is black fur—bright light actually works well here!) Also consider the angle of the photo; for example, a pose looking up at the camera can be adorable, but be sure that’s the look you’d like captured in your artwork.
I can only include what I can clearly see—such as posture, ear position, and expression—so it’s important that your chosen photos show the features you'd like portrayed. I don’t invent or guess at missing details; every portrait begins with what’s real, and grows from the truth in your images.

Absolutely! I can include multiple pets in one portrait and often combine elements from different photos to create a cohesive composition. If you’d like to see layout options, I’m happy to provide a digital mock-up before I begin.
A second pet adds 50% to the base price. For three or more, please get in touch so we can discuss the best layout and size for your portrait. Because my work is highly detailed, there is a limit to how many pets can fit comfortably in each size.

As much as I LOVE to meet the subjects of my portraits, I primarily work from photographs so I don’t need to meet them to complete their portrait. If you would like to bring them when you pick up their portrait I would love to say hello!

Pricing is based on the size, medium (graphite, acrylic or oil), and number of subjects in the portrait. Each size has a base price that includes one subject and a simple background. Additional subjects, more detailed or custom backgrounds, and shipping costs will be added to the final price.
There is a maximum paper size available for graphite portraits, but acrylic paintings on canvas can be created in much larger sizes. Smaller sizes are generally not recommended due to the level of detail in my work, but I’m happy to review these on a case-by-case basis.
You’ll find a list of my most common sizes and base prices for single-subject portraits on the Commission Your Portrait page. If you’re unsure what size is best for your project, I’m always happy to help you decide.

Yes, a 30% non refundable deposit is required to hold your spot on my order list. The balance of your portrait price is due on pickup or before shipping.

To give each portrait the care and attention it deserves, I kindly ask that all reference photos and special requests be shared before I begin your artwork. Once the portrait is in progress, changes to pose, expression, or layout may not be possible. I’m always happy to discuss your ideas in advance to ensure we’re aligned before I start.
Minor adjustments—like darkening the eyes or refining a unique marking—are included at no extra cost. More significant changes, such as altering the background, repositioning subjects, or making multiple edits, may require an additional fee depending on the work involved. If that’s ever the case, I’ll always confirm with you first.

I don’t offer framing myself, but I’m happy to recommend trusted professional framers in the area.
All graphite portraits come mounted with a hand-cut, archival-quality mat board, which adds approximately 4 inches to the final dimensions.
Acrylic and Oil paintings arrive ready to hang with hardware installed—no framing required, unless you choose to add one later -
Yes! I have shipped artwork throughout North America using couriers and Canada Post. Shipping costs will be added to the final price of a portrait and will be calculated once the portrait is complete, packaged and the shipping method is selected.

All custom artwork, including commissions, is final sale.
Because each piece is created just for you, deposits are non-refundable unless I am unable to complete your portrait, or you request a refund within 7 days of placing your deposit. I appreciate your understanding and am always happy to answer questions before we begin to ensure you're fully confident moving forward. -
I prefer payment by e-transfer or cash whenever possible, but I’m also happy to accept most major credit cards, PayPal, and Square if that’s more convenient for you.
